Hi,
I just have a quick question, does anyone have to "top up" their school to pay for the extra teacher aide hours for your child?
It has been suggested to us by the principal of my eldest daughters school that we would need to contribute - although they haven't had to ask any of their special families to cough up "yet"!! I don't know how to react to this particularly since I am aware of a child at the school who falls outside the funding criteria and the school supplies a teacher aide for 30hours a week - at no charge?!?!
Is this normal? _________________ Kerryn -

Hi Kerryn, It would be discriminatory for you to have to pay for extra aide hours. I don't know how the funding works in NZ but in Tasmania any way, Hannah(now 22 yo) was funded centrally for the maximum amount that any child would get and the school had to fund the difference which was a few hours each week. I don't think it is ethical at all for the family to be asked to contribute! I feel really strongly that the issue of funding should not be your problem! Best wishes, Sally. |
